The cheap fix for a garbage disposal
Our garbage disposal broke a few weeks back. It stopped grinding with no visible clog and even started to smoke. I tried resetting it a few days later and the motor would turn, but it wouldn’t grind. We left it as it was for a while, but then I got annoyed by it not draining water well. It would even start to fill up with used water from the dishwasher. I called a repairman and he had it fixed in under a minute. Lesson learned. I should have googled “How to repair a garbage disposal” before calling for a repair. Would have saved myself $55.
#Turn water and garbage disposal off. #Get needle nose pliers or tongs and 1/4 inch Allen wrench handy. #On the underside of the garbage disposal, insert the wrench into the center hole. #Wiggle the wrench back and forth until it can move freely. #Use the tongs to extract the impediments inside the disposal. #Allow the motor to cool off from the jam for approximately 5 minutes. #Reactivate the disposal by pushing the red reset button on the bottom of the unit.
