Good news, I broke my leg!
I’m sure everyone who reads this is thinking “how is that good news”? I thought I had torn my ACL. A fractured bone will heal much faster than an ACL injury.
I incurred this injury while playing a pickup game of soccer on Sunday. The ball was thrown in by the other team and I sprinted up to intercept it. I lept and put my body in front of the ball and on landing my knee popped. I dropped to the ground for a minute and then limped my off to the side of the field. After a few minutes break, I rejoined the game on defense. I didn’t have to run around too much, but after about 45 minutes I had to sit down from the swelling.
The orthopedic doctor was impressed that I was able to keep playing. It also clearly showed that the break is stable, so I most likely will not need surgery. Something that the doctor would not have know had I stopped playing immediately after the pop.
I’m now cruising around with crutches and this knee brace to prevent my leg from buckling to the side, if I put too much weight on it.
