Watering Raleigh
My fiance and I will be moving to Raleigh, NC in less than two weeks. The new apartment is located near Lake Johnson Nature Park and I can’t wait to launch the inflatable sailboat. I’ve had a few adventures with it on the Great South Bay; mostly fighting the tide and then rowing back to shore. The lake should provide a more relaxing (read: noob friendly) place for me to use the boat. I will probably end up rowing the same amount, but there is no longer the risk of getting swept out in to the Atlantic. I wonder if the drought has lowered the water level enough to restrict boating in the lake?
The Carolinas and most of the southeast have been suffering through a pretty bad drought. I was first aware of the drought when I was sent down to WRAL to help troubleshoot some of their software issues. The drought was mentioned, if not featured in every news broadcast. At that point, most counties had not gone in to phase 2 of their water restrictions; No outside watering. My brother’s landscaping business has suffered due to the restrictions. Not many people want to plant anything new if they are not allowed to water it. I padded an extra 2 days of vacation time on to my work trip so I could hang out with a long time friend in the area. It was also going to serve as a scouting trip to get familiar with the area before moving. My scouting plans were rained out. I’m not sure if I should take this as a good or bad omen. If the drought ends in 2 weeks, feel free to send donations.
