Friendly Comments

In my quest to squash boredom, I feel I have done a lot to help out the Textpattern community. I’ve shifted away from assembly lined plugins to something more grandiose. I’ve began to enter the realm of patch flooder! :-) Alex, Pedro, and Dean are really cool guys, but they are quite busy trying to push out the official 1.0. I’m happy that I am able to help guide the code to something that will make plugin developers happy. As soon as the patch is applied to SVN, that will make 3 significant modifications from me. That doesn’t count the dozen other patch files I’ve emailed.

  1. File Downloads
  2. Plugin Dependencies—load_plugin(), include_plugin(), and require_plugin()
  3. Separated Comments

The display aspects of comments is no longer bound to the article display. My patch adds a bunch of tags that should give everyone enough flexibility to place comments anywhere they like on their site. They do not even have to show the article anymore to get comments to appear. The comment form is also independent of the article and comment list. Want a guestbook without doing a lot of work? No problem. Create a section called “Guestbook” and give it an article. Set that section up with a form that will only show comments. Place the comment submission form anywhere you’d like.
